Tropical Storm Basyang Disrupts Flights in Philippines
The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (Caap) stated that 32 flights have been called off since Thursday, impacting 7,737 passengers, according to a news agency.
The storm is presently advancing toward Central Visayas, as noted by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
Basyang’s torrential rains and powerful winds have left streets in Iligan City, northern Mindanao, covered with mud and debris.
In flood-prone areas, including Barangay Mahayahay, households were compelled to relocate to higher floors or designated evacuation centers while floodwaters persisted.
The overflowing Tubod River in Iligan City caused a temporary shutdown of a national highway bridge, with water levels reaching up to three feet at their highest, sweeping away parked vehicles.
Officials continue to observe the storm closely and have urged residents to exercise caution as airlines modify flight schedules and support affected passengers.
